Mischa Maisky: 9 days

Monday, January 18, 2010

Argh! 2010. The oughts are out

So. It's the new year and I definitely will not be writing as much as I say I will.

However, I do plan to practice a lot more: (only 11 hours behind on my 93 hours of practice in the month of January resolution.)

Countdown to Mischa Maisky Masterclass: 12.5 days! Here's Mischa Maisky

(and here's Mischa Maisky):

Also, for those who are concerned with my recent Friends on DVD addiction, know that I am 1.5 seasons away from detox.

Dvorak concerto is still kicking my butt, a year later. However it's becoming more and more enjoyable to work on, which has always been the sign of my getting a piece under my belt.

I also plan to read a lot of books. Currently I'm rereading Wuthering Heights to fit the cold, wintery weather outside- oh wait- the day I opened the book the sun came out and it was 60 degrees! It's been that way ever since. Oh well, at least I'm still a depressed hopeless romantic. That fits.

50 books a year challenge? I'm finding a lot of people online doing that, and I think I can rise to it. (the challenge.) Since New Years:

The Stand- Stephen King
The Running Man- Stephen King
Shutter Island- Dennis Lehane

I know- not the most quality of choices. Although I do love me some Stephen King. but in a couple days I can add

Wuthering Heights- Emily Brontë.

Still don't have a job. Still single. Oh well- there's always Paris!

Procrastination is the spice of life

I love how the only time I write on my blog is when I really really need to be doing something else. For instance, I should be completing my outline and abstract of my term paper right about now. . . . or not.

This afternoon I played with Pan American Symphony Orchestra. . .what awesome people. The conductor is so passionate about this music and Diana the concertmistress sounds AWESOME on those tango solos. Now I am so excited about tango music. Someone teach me how to dance, please. . . please. . . anyone. . .

One problem with not being able to dance and wanting to be able to is that you have to learn. Now you can learn with a partner who already knows how, and completely bore/annoy them, or you can learn with someone else who also does not know how to dance. And learning with someone else who also does not know how to dance is rare, unless you're dating them and they're cool with learning how to dance. Or you can learn how to dance with someone whom you are not dating and feel comfortable being that close to for hours at a time weekly. There is just no one in my life like that right now. Drew Wolber is probably the closest match and I think he already knows how to dance, anyway.

In other news, I hate that I only get on this blog once every other month. On the other hand, I still haven't decided if blogging is for me. I guess since my personal tendency is to unattractively blab out my personal issues to anyone willing to listen, I might as well post for the whole internet to read. OR since no one cares anyway, should I try to exercise a bit more control starting by cutting down my internet blabbing? I could use some opinions. . .

Friday Nights are Boring when Alone

Today I registered for classes. . . . I have them on Tuesday and Thursday. hah. . . never knew I would be so free. So am I going to get a job? . . . no. Probably not. I figure, might as well be as lazy as I can for as long as I can, right? I will probably try to work at the food co-op in the student union. It is a super cool place to find super cool food.

My cello teacher is way intense. I think she will be awesome to work with, but it is A. my first female teacher and B. my first intense teacher at the same time. We'll see.

Getting nervous for the opening audition. evidently all of the chamber music assignments are made from that audition. . . . yikes. That is a very important part of my year here. . . please let me play well!!

Time to go running. It is beautiful outside. . . and by beautiful I mean 100% humidity and overcast. But at least it's not raining. :-)

Bike to school and back: check.
Practice 1.5 hours today: check.
Eat homemade chocolate sauce with spoon: check.

Moved in

Moved in. . . didn't take all that long, now did it. After taking the graduate entrance exams I know how to get to school from the house. . . before taking the exams, I did not, was very late, and managed to interrupt the entire testing process by squeaking the door as loudly as possible upon entering.

Embarrass self: check.
Drive to school: check.
Practice five hours a day: not checked yet.

Oh by the way MY BAND IS ON I-TUNES . . . therefore, I have a blog again. I suppose I will write on it every now and then. :-)
